TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a 1⁄2 hour paid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

Shifts:
Saturday to Sunday - 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES


The primary accountability for the Withdrawal Management Peer Support Worker is to work cooperatively with the Withdrawal Management Manager and/or Counsellors to provide one-on-one support in order to effectively meet the needs of the clients in the Centre.

The primary function of the Peer Support Worker is to facilitate daily activities with individual clients and accompany clients to scheduled functions within the Centre.


  • To complete all duties in accordance with the Standards and Policies & Procedures of The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope and Ontario Withdrawal Management Standards
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and inservice training
  • As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the Withdrawal Management Program Manager
  • Maintain communications log
  • Give verbal or written reports as appropriate to the counsellor to be included in client files
  • Provide individualized support to clients aimed at maintaining and improving their social, interpersonal and life skills
  • Oneonone friendly visiting and supportive listening
  • Facilitate daily activities with individual clients and accompany clients to scheduled functions within the Centre
  • Assist Counsellors in developing/suggesting appropriate strategies and interventions in response to client needs or concerns
  • Refer any client issues of a serious nature, or client crisis, which arise while on shift, to the To promote the mission, policies and objectives of The Salvation Army
  • To maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope
  • To treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
  • To act in the best interest of the employer at all times

Qualifications and Education requirements

  • Consumer/survivor of the addictions/mental health system (in active recovery for a minimum 4 years) is required
  • Peer Certification / Training is an asset
  • Knowledge of and experience working with communitybased agencies and services
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Postsecondary studies in psychosocial rehabilitation or social services is an asset


Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
