- Responsible of Metals Accounting and SAP month-end routines (e.g. metallurgical balances).
- Perform metallurgical and analytical technical activities at the Thompson Concentrator plant. Typically, these activities involve process sampling assignments, field data collection, sample preparation and/or analysis, data interpretation, and effective communication of results both verbally and in writing to the Process Technology group and customer groups. Note: these routine activities represent a significant proportion of a typical workweek.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities as requested by Section Leader.
- Assist in planning and scheduling of routine analytical and technical activities using SAP Work Management.
- Assist in the testing of new or modified equipment/processes in the plant.
- Record and track specific plant operating data for the purpose of analysis.
- Monitor plant product quality characteristics and recommend enhancements to sample collection, analysis, procedures, and equipment.
- Ensure analyzers and associated devices in the plant and laboratory are maintained adequately. Maintenance involves calibrating, cleaning, and troubleshooting to ensure that such instrumentation and equipment remain in full working order. Assist with repairs to analytical equipment as required.
- Educate operators and other plant personnel in the proper use of various in-plant analyzers and associated devices.
- Purchase and maintain lab equipment and supplies.
- Administer Process Technology databases, metallurgical spreadsheets, and control charts.
- Continuously strive to improve knowledge and skills in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering technology.
- Contribute to the safety and health of all employees in his/her area and participate in the execution of the area safety plan.
- Responsible for ordering reagents, and ensure proper inventories are kept.
- College diploma in Mineral Processing or Process/Chemical Engineering Technology. Relevant University degree is an asset.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role
- Experience in a mining or heavy industry environment would be considered an asset.
- Skilled user of Excel and other MS tools.
- Experience with standard laboratory procedures would be beneficial.
- Ability to use equipment for process sampling (gases/liquids/solids), field measurements (e.g. 3D scanning, thermal imaging), solution analysis, and solids analysis (e.g. On-line XRF slurry analyzer, Leco, ICP fusion).
