Description

The Information Technology Technician reports to the Director, IT and is responsible for maintaining Cestar College's computing equipment, networks and security systems.

The job includes, but is not limited to the below duties. Other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Set up hardware and install and configure software and drivers for servers and desktops computers. This includes relocation and/or installation of voice/data communications solutions, LAN and PC equipment.
  • Maintain and repair equipment (e.g. routers) printers and other peripheral devices
  • Install wellfunctioning LAN/WAN and other networks and manage components (servers, IPs etc.)
  • Manage security options and software in computers and networks to maintain privacy and protection from attacks
  • Perform regular software updates and patches to ensure security and system effectiveness
  • Troubleshoot system failures or bugs and provide solutions to restore functionality
  • Investigate for solutions or new feature requirements and integrate into the lab and classroom technologies
  • Arrange maintenance sessions to discover and mend inefficiencies
  • Create/maintain documentation of service procedures and records of repairs and fixes for future reference
  • Offer timely technical support and teach users how to utilize computers correctly
  • Identify and prepare hardware for disposal where appropriate
  • Responsible for local inventory maintenance and software license management
  • Provides new staff with PC/account setup and orientation

Requirements:


  • Work requirements = 4 weekdays 85 and Saturday 8
  • Relevant degree or diploma from a postsecondary institution in computer systems and networking
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Windows Active Directory and Microsoft Server and Windows environments
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Cisco network installation and support
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Clear and effective communication, both written and spoken
  • Certification in Microsoft Server technologies would be an advantage
  • Work requires ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds and may require moderate physical exertion and/or physical strain.
  • Must have a strong dedication to customer service.
