Job Description:


  • Follows the efficient and effective wash process that promotes infection control and minimizes the handling and sorting of soiled linen. Will be knowledgeable in the use of the appropriate wash formulas and operate equipment to properly maximize productivity.
  • Monitor cleanliness, quality and costs of processing of linen. Work with the chemical representative to ensure appropriate washing results.
  • Provide each area of the home with the allocated quota of linen per shift. This may also include the distribution of incontinent products.
  • Follow a cleaning schedule to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment and infection control. Cleaning of surfaces and equipment are performed regularly and as required.
  • Removes and disposes of waste as necessary.
  • Ensures proper use, maintenance and storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies appropriately and advises supervisor when supplies require replenishment.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of Extendicare, the facility and the Housekeeping/Laundry Department.
  • Participates in evaluating care and/or services provided by the Laundry Department to residents under the facility Quality Assurance/Improvement Program.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and is aware of and adheres to Safe Work Procedures, specific to job responsibilities. Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Follows manufacturers' instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals.
  • Reports unsafe and hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Knowledgeable of facility procedures for fire and environmental safety.
  • Performs duties in accordance with prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures.
  • Respects residents' rights to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Adheres to but not limited to "Standards of Employee Conduct," "Commitment to Residents," "Bill of Rights", and "Extendicare Quality Care Standards", Extendicare Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Works closely and cooperates with other staff and residents. Maintains good working relationships with other departments.
  • Participates in inter-disciplinary care conferences, committees, meetings as required.
  • Responsible for the development and upgrading of his/her knowledge and skills. Attends in-service sessions and conferences as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
