The Investment Associate, Alternative Assets will be involved in business analysis, due diligence, investment selection, and investment reporting.

In addition, the successful incumbent will play a key role in assisting with the development of a growing investment team and supporting the build-out of key investment infrastructure elements for our expanding portfolios and platforms.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Supporting the Manager, Alternative Investments in the following key areas:
  • Supporting the on-going development, implementation, and execution of the alternative assets strategy.
  • Assisting in the oversight of investments in alternative asset classes (private equity, venture, real estate, infrastructure, hedge funds) including the engagement & coordination of external consultants; and implementation of approved managers.
  • Challenging and assisting in the development of investment selection frameworks and processes.
  • Researching, recommending, and managing investment opportunities in private markets, including coinvestment opportunities and direct investments referred by family members.
  • Supporting the underwriting process for new opportunities, including (i) financial and business modelling; (ii) due diligence of investment opportunities; (iii) preparing investment memos; and (iii) collaborating with other team members on investment research.
  • Support in the monitoring of existing investments to ensure ongoing alignment with strategy and stated goals.
  • Preparing analysis and reporting on the performance of existing investments, including directly owned businesses.
  • Participating in the ongoing management and monitoring of both financial and operational aspects of existing and new investments.
  • Working and collaborating on proposals to enhance riskadjusted performance of the overall portfolio of alternative assets considering all aspects of portfolio management to ensure effective management of costs, risks and aftertax returns.
  • Collaborating with Finance, Legal, Investment Operations, and other external professionals, on issues related to financial accounting, onboarding and reporting of the entity's investments.
  • Prepare and present ad hoc analysis and research.
Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field.
  • Minimum five years of finance, investing, and/or strategy consulting experience.
  • Progress towards CIM, CFA, CPA, CBV, or CAIA designations.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, financial modelling, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of portfolio management and risk management principles and practices.
  • Experience with Bloomberg and ERP software is considered an asset.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to cultivate partnerships and work collaboratively in a team environment with both internal and external partners.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards as well as a positive, cooperative attitude.
