Job description
Welcome Home
We're more than Canada's largest independent hardware and building supplies retailer—we're part of communities across the nation.

Strong Networks. Strong Foundation. Strong Future.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will lead the design and evolution of our enterprise network infrastructure across both on-premise and cloud environments.

This role requires deep technical expertise in Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, and AWS/Azure, along with the ability to architect secure, scalable solutions that support Home's growing, multi-site organization.

Led by the Senior Manager, Network & Security, you will balance strategic planning with hands-on execution to ensure reliable, high-performing, and secure connectivity across the business.

Ready to make an impact in a new role? Here's how:

Design and implement best-practice solutions aligned to short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure network capacity meets current and future business requirements.

Monitor and analyze network performance across the organization's LANs, WANs and wireless deployments, ensuring the stable operation and efficient performance of company networks, including remote access and security perimeter.

Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend for purchase networking hardware and software products.

Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex network and security problems for a variety of end users and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site repairs.

Develop and implement policies, procedures and associated training for network resource administration and appropriate use along with establishing connectivity and uptime service level agreements.

Provide off-hour support on a rotation basis for the corporate network infrastructure.

We're looking for:
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Network Administration, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced networking certifications in Cisco, Juniper, or Palo Alto technologies (CCNP, JNCIP, PCNSE) are an asset.
Five years of progressive experience in senior-level network administration or network engineering roles within complex, multi-site environments.
Demonstrated expertise supporting enterprise on-premise networks and cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure).
Strong hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, and Silver Peak technologies.
Proven experience designing, implementing, and optimizing complex network and security architectures.

Strong knowledge of enterprise routing and switching protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS), as well as DNS, QoS, VLANs, LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, Fibre, IPSec, NAT/PAT, LDAP, Active Directory, telecommunications, and wireless technologies.

Experience with network monitoring and security tools, including SNMP, firewalls, load balancers, and IPS/ISE solutions.
Experience with scripting and automation using BASH or PowerShell.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to perform effectively in high-availability, high-pressure environments.
Effective prioritization and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear documentation and user-friendly language (MS Office, Visio).
Ability and availability to provide extended hours and off-hour support.
The ability to be onsite three days a week at our corporate office in St. Jacobs, to accommodate our hybrid working model.
