NAV CANADA is currently looking for an Emergency Planning Advisor to join our team in Ottawa.

In this junior role, you will be responsible for providing Emergency Management Program support in the maintenance, analysis and sustainability of the corporate emergency and business continuity plans, and program documentation.

As a member of the Corporate Security & Emergency Planning team, the incumbent will gain cross functional exposure to all critical business and operational units while supporting the implementation of emergency planning requirements and delivering preparedness awareness activities defined in policy, business continuity standards, and crisis response guidelines.

Pay range:
$60,000 - $88,000 (Commensurate with Experience)

  • In this role you will:
  • Maintain, analyze, and implement policies and procedures to support the preparation of plans such as the Business Continuity Plans (BCP) or the emergency response plan to ensure NAV CANADA is prepared to respond in case of emergencies and hazards.
  • Participate in the delivery of the enterprisewide emergency management training and awareness exercises, assisting in discussions and operationsbased exercises like drills, tabletops and fullscale.
  • Serve as a support member of the Company's National Emergency Management Team in the event of an emergency, organize and participate in debriefing meetings after an emergency and collect observations and feedback from participants for improving the program.
  • Collaborate with Program team members, working closely with managers and operational staff across NAV CANADA to support them in implementing emergency planning activities including: completing and maintaining business continuity and resumption plans and related emergency response plans.
  • Keep apprised of emerging trends, developments and external events that impact the company's readiness to respond to an emergency through research and analysis Collect, review, and prepare reports, and support the implementation of afteraction report recommendations and industry leading practices. Obtain uptodate information on business continuity, incident management and organizational resilience processes.
  • Assist in the development and support of emergency preparedness and business continuity tools and resources and in the development and maintenance of response procedures.

What you bring:

  • Post secondary education in a related field OR, the equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year of recent continued experience in one of the following fields: business continuity planning, emergency response planning, crisis management, risk management, disaster recovery planning, cybersecurity, OSH / fire safety planning.
  • Experience in project coordination or support.
  • Experience in practices and procedures involved in the research, development, implementing and maintaining emergency or related emergency response plans.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles and best practices of emergency management, business continuity and / or crisis management.
  • Basic knowledge of risk identification and impact assessment, methods, techniques, and practices.
