The Opportunity


To provide guidance to a team up to 8 Senior Residential Mortgage Underwriters who will approve mortgages originated through the independent mortgage broker channel.

The Credit Manager will ensure the success of the team through coaching, planning, hiring staff and making sure the needs of team members, internal and external business partners are met.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure that service levels are maintained in an environment of high volumes and the competing demands of customers and staff.
  • Adhere here to RFA Mortgage Corporations' Residential Underwriting Guidelines.
  • Review credit exceptions for continued appropriateness and mitigation.
  • Develop and implement procedures to increase productivity and improve process efficiency.
  • Handle difficult interactions and unpopular decisions, balancing business partner satisfaction with quality standards established by RFA Mortgage Corporation.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining customer service levels.
  • Accountable for achieving quality objectives of the team.
  • Responsible for monitoring volumes to ensure optimal use of all resources.
  • Continually evaluate processes and procedures to ensure team is operating as efficiently as possible.
  • Expected to participate in activities to develop the RFA brand and broker relations.
Risk Management

  • Participate in analysis of Quality Assurance reviews and provide feedback to team members to support the risk objections of RFA Mortgage Corporation.
People Management

  • Motivate and coach team members to assist them in exceeding their objectives.
  • Develop staffing plans anticipating short, medium
- and long-term needs.

  • Lead and participate in annual performance reviews, addressing areas of strength and improvement.
Customer/Stakeholder Interaction

  • Assist Senior Director with Customer Complaints according to RFA Mortgage Corporation's Customer Complaint policy.
Financial Responsibilities

  • Monitor errors and oversights by team members as it may impact customer relations or involve financial loss.
  • Approve/Authorize transactions within designated limits.
  • Approve/Authorize exceptions/escalations within designated limits.

What you can bring to RFA:

  • 5+ years of residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • Undergraduate university degree is an asset.
  • Exercised approval authority at a senior level in a highvolume environment.
  • Proven leadership skills and previous experience in a team leader or management position
  • Demonstrated training and coaching skills to support team member development.
  • The ability to manage group dynamics and motivate staff toward common goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Able to adapt team to constantly changing volumes.
  • Understanding of Canadian residential mortgage industry and associated government legislation
  • Detailed working knowledge of real estate and covenant assessments, legislation, and land title systems in all provinces
  • Previous experience working with mortgage brokers or an external mortgage sales force.
  • Understand the needs that drive a commissioned sale force.
  • Ability to handle pressure caused by high volumes and tight turnaround times.
  • A very strong customer focus couple with the ability to ensure the customer experience is a positive one.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate decisions.
