Description
The world today is smaller than ever, and the demand for secure documents only continues to grow.

If you enjoy and are energized by a workplace that is always in motion, live and breathe customer satisfaction, and have outstanding interpersonal skills, read on.

As Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating activities primarily of the Bindery staff. Depending on production demands, you may be requested to coordinate activities in other finishing departments as required.

Not only will you need to leverage your organization, planning and prioritization skills to meet production schedules and deadlines, you will also have to employ your communication, motivational and conflict resolution skills as you supervise a diverse and multi-generational workforce.

It is important to note that it is a shift environment with overtime required from time-to-time, so flexibility with regard to work hours on your part is a must.

This position is a great starting point for a person who has an interest in manufacturing, wants to develop their managerial and leadership skills, and is interested in advancing within Plant Operations.

You will be exposed to a variety of individuals within the manufacturing team at CBN, working with and learning from Product Managers, Manufacturing Engineers and Quality Engineers to name a few.

As an analytical thinker you will have the opportunity to put your mind to the test in the pursuit of process improvement as we seek to continually improve quality and efficiency.

At the end of the day, you can go home knowing that the work you do helps make the world a safer, more secure place.

You can expect your first year in the role to look like this:

  • Your first few weeks will be spent familiarizing yourself with the Bindery
  • the staff, production equipment and processes
  • as well as your responsibilities. You will also be a part of daily production meetings where you will get to know other production managers, supervisors as well as different Value Stream teams.
  • Over the first few months you will be trained on how to deploy your production team within your department so as to best balance available resources against production demands while meeting established production standards. You will also assume responsibility for ensuring that production operators have filled out shift paperwork correctly while filling out your own endofshift status reports, absentee reports, etc.
  • By the end of the second month you will be completing daily dashboards that track performance to schedule and quality which will be distributed amongst the various Value Stream teams.
  • Over the first three months you will, with assistance, gain an understanding of how to deploy your team members to other departments as required when requested by the Plant Manager while still maintaining Bindery's production schedule and standards.
  • At the six month mark you will be supervising the department with very little guidance. You will be meeting or exceeding production schedules, performing regular quality checks, ensuring compliance with all safety standards and maintaining a clean and organized production environment by employing the 5S (or similar) methodology.
  • By the end of the first year you will be supervising the department independently, deploying your staff effectively to maximize efficiency and productivity, completing and disseminating all production reports, and making process improvement suggestions based on your observation and analysis of existing processes.
