About the Role:

This is a Group 5 position under current collective agreement.


You will contribute by:


  • Creating compelling content.
  • Daily reporting, writing, shooting, editing, presenting, and creating content for broadcast and online.
  • Generating and developing original and enterprising story ideas.
  • Modelling and encouraging fresh, compelling, and enterprising storytelling.
  • Helping ensure audience interest drives content decisions.
  • Helping build value around top stories.
  • Taking part in regular editorial and planning meetings.
  • Develop and implement new work processes.
  • Scheduling Digital Broadcast Journalists
  • Being the first point of contact for reporter/DJ issues and concerns.
  • Vet scripts as needed.
  • Leading and guiding digital broadcast journalists while supporting other members of the newsroom.
  • Regularly reviewing and providing feedback on DBJ stories including writing style, story structure, use of sound, graphics and video.
  • Conducting regular sessions with the team to inform, educate and celebrate success.
  • Conducting annual performance reviews and quarterly checkins with direct reports.
  • Communicating and model Corus Values

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in broadcast journalism or a related field.
  • An experienced journalist capable of reporting and anchoring daily news and community events.
  • Exceptional news writing, news delivery, and storytelling skills
  • A natural leader and effective communicator with a positive outlook and vision for the future
  • Motivated, organized, innovative and able to make quick and effective decisions under pressure.
  • Passionate about journalism, especially local news
  • Expert in television news with a solid understanding of online and radio news
  • At least ten years of reporting experience with a proven record of strong news judgment
  • A broadcastrelated degree or diploma from a recognized postsecondary institution
  • Able to supervise staff, enhancing teamwork, engagement and content.
  • Valid driver's licence and a clear driving record is required.
