Superintendent - Corrugated Operations:


The main function of the Plant Superintendent is to act as first line of support for Plant/Operations Managers in overseeing, improving, and implementing meaningful, long-term strategies in the areas of productivity and quality, for all corrugated and converting operations within the plant.


Activities/tasks while on the job will also include enforcing all Health & Safety Program policies and procedures, along with ensuring all plant staff are adhering to GMPs at all times.


The Superintendent is also expected to take part in general and administrative requirements, along with any other related tasks, as directed by upper-levels of Management.


Job Duties:

  • Performing "Safety Observations" to ensure specific safety rules, procedures, housekeeping, proactive accident prevention, and conscious "safety" behaviors are adhered to and enforced, if necessary.
  • Ensuring that Production and safety goals are communicated and met each shift, by liaising with all employees and Supervisors/Plant and/or Operations Managers, and providing necessary training and updates to meet relevant required legislation.
  • Ensuring that all required H&S forms and documentation are completed by Supervisors and/or Production Floor Team, and meet all compliance requirements as indicated within current, relevant legislations.
  • Overseeing, collecting data pertaining to, reporting on, and monitoring workforce adherence to the productivity and quality standards of all corrugated and converted products.
  • Developing, consistently meeting, or ideally exceeding annual "Plant & Line Objectives", in regard to efficiency and shrinkage targets.
  • Identifying, creating, implementing, and/or providing leadership for all initiatives within the Production Operation, where costs can be reduced, quality can be improved, and/or growth can be maximized.
  • Ensuring that all labour costs are effectively managed by Operation Leaders, and ensuring that all production and performance goals are consistently met by all levels of the hourly production team.
  • Ensuring quality standards are met, or exceeded, on both raw materials, and converted end products, by performing regular QC activities and reporting on all discrepancies to the appropriate departments/stakeholders.
  • Facilitating monthly meetings with Supervisory/Management staff to ensure current production, staffing, quality, health & safety, and/or any other related issues are reported on, considered, and resolved.
  • Maintaining a position of support to ensure all decisions, policies, goals, and general business directions put in place by members of upper management are adopted and implemented by production floor staff.
  • Acting as a nonbiased mediator during instances of disagreement between all levels of employee within the facility, gathering all views and facts before rendering decisions, especially at the 2nd level of the "opendoor policy"
  • Ensuring that the Performance Management Program (PMP) is conducted and utilized for the purposes of increasing the capabilities of direct reports/Supervisory Staff, and that all disciplinary actions are in line with the overall direction and longterm goals that are currently in place within the Corrugated division.
  • Performing general and administrative tasks/activities in order to provide various recurring reports, as required by the Plant Manager, Operations Manager, or any executivelevel managerial stakeholders.
  • Reviewing, approving, and reporting on any newly implemented processes, procedures, or manufacturing methods, which may directly or indirectly affect production or quality standards.
  • Communicating and liaising with the Sales, Scheduling, Shipping, Human Resources, Payroll, Accounting, or any other relevant division or department regularly, or as needed.
  • Taking responsibility for all plant operations in the absence of the Plant/Operations Manager.
  • Conducting research, recording data, and presenting findings related to a variety of plant operations to any/all interested parties, as assigned.
  • Participating in, revising, implementing, and leading any continuous improvement projects, meetings, initiatives, committees, and/or product/process trials, as assigned.
  • Performing any other related activities, tasks, or jobs as assigned by Plant/Operations/Executive Management, or any other highlevel stakeholders.

Education Requirements:

  • Postsecondary education in a related discipline, equivalent work experience gained from within a similar environment, or a combination of education and relevant industry experience.

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • 510 years of experience holding Managerial or Supervisory titles, operating within a similar, highvolume manufacturing environment direct paper/packaging industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Must possess extremely high skill levels in all areas of leadership, with emphasis on strategic, transformational, democratic, and coachingfocus
