The Program Interpreter will work directly with the Education and Program Manager and Education and Program Supervisor to ensure that our Society is reflecting our Mission and Vision statements.

The Lethbridge & District Japanese Garden Society celebrates the influences of people of Japanese ancestry, narrating a history of this region through garden architecture, the natural environment, and culture in Southern Alberta.

To achieve this, the Program Interpreter will assist the team in many responsibilities to ensure our guests have a positive visitor experience in our world class living exhibit, while assisting the Executive Director and Management team in achieving strategic goals.

This Program Interpreter role will provide support for our team to be organized and efficient and will demonstrate strong leadership and organizing skills.


Scope:
The position of Program Interpreter reports to the Education and Program Manager & Education and Program Supervisor. They will also work closely with the Operations Manager and Marketing Manager.

  • Public relations and ability to work with and present to a wide variety of audiences
  • Comfort working with technology for admissions & programming.
  • Loves working outdoors and in a garden environment with different temperatures/climates
  • Loves culture, diversity, and inclusivity. Interest in Canadian and Japanese history, art, and culture.
  • Pro-Serve is mandatory and is a requirement of the job. Training will be provided through AGLC. You must be 18+ to have your proserve certificate.

Primary Job Functions:


Support Visitor Experiences and Programs

  • To greet and provide a welcoming environment for local and international visitors and take admissions at the main gate.
  • To take admissions in different formats including using phones/tablets, scanners, and paper admissions. Support visitor tracking information when required.
  • To communicate expectations of service to guests and to provide high quality and positive visitor experiences and services, and to lead that example of a high level of customer hospitality. Work closely with the Education and Program Supervisor to ensure expectations are clearly defined and communicated with staff and the visitor.
  • Support some bookings including but not limited to Group Tours, Private tours, weddings, photo shoots, and large and small venue rentals
  • Maintain healthy public relations including positive and informative communication with tour groups, customers, visitors, community groups, Board members, service providers, and your fellow staff members.
  • Distribute brochures, set up visual and audio support for presentations, experiences, and activities. This includes set up and take down for programs, activities, and events if they are booked in the Garden.
  • To assist with programs, performances, presentations and oversee experiences (Tourism Products) that the garden develops for our guests and to promote Japanese Culture, Garden Horticulture, or awareness of the Historical significance of Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden
  • To assist the Management Team with conducting and hosting events.
  • To assist the Marketing Manager with social media content development and support. (Your picture maybe taken a lot )
  • To communicate all risks and/or incidents and situations that could impact Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden reputation and could have liable/legal consequences to the Garden and Society.
  • To support any customer challenges in a _
    professional manner_. To support both the visitor and fellow staff with conflict resolutions to achieve a positive environment and a positive visitor experience.
  • To participate in daily toolkit meetings or group meetings to work together for planning the day, staff breaks, support of team, tours, and any special events that may be on that day.
  • Provide cultural/historical information on Japanese culture, horticulture/landscape design, arts, and festivals. Working with the Education and Program Manager and Operations Manager to learn and communicate different packages, experiences, and events that are taking place and offered at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden.
  • To work with the Operations Manager, Visitor Experience Supervisor, and the Marketing Manager to ensure products are promoted, and signage has the most uptodate information and is placed strategically
