    Role Overview:
    Our Toronto office is currently recruiting for a Membership and Trust Specialist in our Accounting Department, reporting to our Manager, Accounts Payable and Trust. This role requires a candidate who will ensure that all memberships for professional staff are kept current and paid on time. This includes various law societies, professional organizations, and professional liability insurance. As well as a candidate who is detailed oriented with strong organizational and time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks to meet deadlines.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    Invoice Processing – Firm's Insurance / Lawyer's Professional Liability Insurance:

    Management and Invoice Processing – Law Society and CBA Memberships:
    Main Firm contact for inquires & questions
    Annual Renewals
    Membership support to the lawyers
    Lawyers Annual Report
    Annual Practice Declaration (BC)
    Other Law Society Memberships:
    Provide info to lawyers wanting to get called to the bar in additional provinces
    Confirm with practice group chairs for approval for expenses
    Process invoices & annual fees associated with the additional Law Society memberships
    Advocates' Society:
    Annual Renewal
    Ontario, Alberta, & BC Bar Association Section Enrollment:
    Annual renewal
    Toronto Lawyers' Association
    Annual Renewal

    On & Off Boarding of Lawyers and Students Hire back:
    Request certificate of good standing from applicable law society
    Process invoices related to bar call, memberships, & insurance
    Notify applicable law society, provincial insurer, and CBA of the lawyers start and departure date at Cassels
    Keeping up to date list of Active lawyers
    LawPro application assistance
    Renewal and new application of BC business license

    Investigation of prior year in active Trust Balances:
    Review client matters to ensure no WIP or AR balance to offset the Trust balance
    Gather all the backup information of the Trust balance, work with lawyers and legal assistants to locate and identify the owner of this balance
    Conduct MTO or Corporate search if necessary to find out the current contact address to return the Trust balance.
    Close interaction with lawyers, legal assistants, and Law Society on unclaimed balance

    Additional Duties:
    Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned

    The successful candidate must have the following education, experience and/or demonstrated skills:
    Diploma or Post secondary education ideally in accounting
    Experience with accounting software (such as 3E)
    Preference for those candidates with previous experience in a law firm, knowledge of trust balance activity is an asset
    Intermediate knowledge of Excel (V lookups, Pivot tables, etc.)
    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate initiative to complete tasks
    Detailed oriented with strong organizational and time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks to meet deadlines
    Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable communicating with professional staff
