Forensic Equine Drug Testing

1 Full Time Permanent Position Available
The

Scientist

Specialist is responsible for developing and validating analytical test methods as required utilizing HPLC, LC/MS/MS and/or UPLC/HRMS for ISO/IEC 17025 compliant testing of drugs and their metabolites in equine bodily fluids or hair or special samples such as pharmaceutical products or drug paraphernalia.

The Key Accountabilities of the role are:

  • Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of the department ensuring that the work is carried out in accordance with the departmental standard operating procedures and health and safety policies.
  • Supervise analysis of various types of samples by staff in Analytical Services group
  • Ensure that proper procedures and policies are followed, as per client's request
  • Ensures that samples are handled in a secure manner at all times; verify that chain of custody procedures are followed
  • Open nonracing sample and unofficial investigative sample boxes and verify contents to ensure integrity of the samples
  • Provide the senior level data review as appropriate to ensure the appropriate level of quality in all analytical data and processes to meet the needs of the client as required
  • Prepare and approve by signature analytical reports as required
  • Communicate with clients in the equestrian industry as required
  • Assist in installation and validation of lab instruments
  • Evaluate changes in current procedures to improve efficiency, compliance, and profitability
  • Prepare laboratory SOPs and WIs relating to analytical test methods and instrument operation
  • Maintain or establish relationships with technology suppliers and assists in keeping current of the latest technological developments in the field of analytical chemistry and continuously improve laboratory systems and processes to ensure efficiency, regulatory compliance, client satisfaction and profitability
  • Analyze samples suspected to contain drugs or their metabolites using appropriate analytical methods
  • Represent Bureau Veritas at scientific meetings when required
  • All other responsibilities as assigned
  • A minimum of B.Sc. degree in a chemical science or the equivalent
  • At least three (3) years of practical experience in general analytical procedures, with experience in pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, toxicology, biopharmaceutics or medicinal chemistry within the last five (5) years
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in operating and troubleshooting analytical instruments including, HPLC, LC/MS/MS or LC/HRMS
  • Minimum of one (1) year continuous employment in a laboratory that has been accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 in the Forensic Testing program specialty area as a Drug Chemistry or Toxicology laboratory.
  • Current member of Association of Official Racing Chemists is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
  • Familiarity with Sciex LC/MS/MS, ThermoFisher HRMS Obritrap instruments and/or Waters LC/MS/MS are a must
  • Extensive experience with instrument software packages such as Waters Masslynx, Agilent ChemStation, Sciex Analyst, MultiQuant and OS, Thermofisher Tracefinder and Excalibur
