The Competitive Contest Team Coach for Grades 9 and 10 is primarily responsible for leading in-person contest coaching sessions and invigilating multiple math contests.

This is a part-time contract position. This position is for 9 months.

Education:


  • B.Sc. (or equivalent), or
  • Spirit of Math (SoM) Assistant Teacher Alumni, or
  • Current undergraduate student in mathematics (or equivalent) with multiple honour roll certificates in a variety of math contests.

Skilled Knowledge & Experience:

This individual has**:

  • A strong background in mathematics, with a proven understanding of high school, and advanced math concepts, up to first year university concepts.
  • Experience with participating in math contest, math circles, creating math contests, or organizing contests.
  • Experience with teaching, tutoring, or coaching students.
  • Confidence with the use of technology.
  • Language proficiency in English

Key Responsibilities:
Contest Coach will report directly to the Contests Coordinator on the following key responsibilities:

  • Conducting monthly in-person coaching sessions online from September to January, and April to May.
  • Conducting biweekly in=person coaching sessions in February and March.
  • Travelling nationally and international to math competitions (flights, accommodation, per diem will be provided)
  • Coaching students to solve problems using diverse problemsolving strategies.
  • Selecting content for each session and preparing a lesson plan for each session.
  • Invigilating up to four contests.
  • Supporting students with research for their independent discovery topics.
  • Assessing students' abilities and adjusting sessions accordingly.
  • Other tasks as needed.
