We are seeking a
Youth Employment Worker to support our employment program for youth with developmental disabilities called LEAP (Leading Employment and Achieving Possibilities).
This position works closely with all members of LEAP including the students, family, peer mentors matched with each youth, and DCLS personnel.
Training:
Delta Community Living Society will provide training for this role which includes Emergency First Aid & CPR, Customized Employment training, Person-Centered Thinking training, Mandt training (non-violent crisis intervention), New Employee Safety Orientation, and Site Specific Orientation, and training on working with and supporting clients by a Manager and/or colleague.
The Youth Employment Worker will also have access to Open Future Learning, an online training platform that features over 100 modules on a variety of topics related intellectual disabilities including autism, challenging behaviour, communication, mental health, and more.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Facilitate weekly classroom sessions to prepare job seekers for employment (topics include: interview skills, resume preparation, goal setting, money sense, time management)
- Plan a variety of community events and theme parties
- Guide and support a team of 12 peer mentors
- Conduct assessments to identify each youth's skills, interests and career goals
- Communicate with prospective employers
- Promote inclusion and diversity in the workplace
- Onthejob coaching
- Maintain all necessary records and follow data protocols
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership and presentation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Computer literacy including use of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work within a team setting with an emphasis on leadership
- Selfmotivation and the ability to work independently
- Understanding the needs of clients with developmental disabilities
- Ability to foster positive and professional relationships with DCLS staff, job seekers, families, community organizations, and businesses
- Education or Psychology Major, or courses completed in either program an asset
Job Types:
Full-time, Internship / Co-op
Contract length: 4 months
Salary:
$21.63 per hour

- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Delta, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
