Reporting to the Associate Dean, Academic the Chair will champion the program and ensure student success through instructional and curriculum excellence.

As Program champion, the Chair is considered a content expert and is responsible to support program development and growth; high quality and relevant curriculum; industry liaison; program promotional activities and identifying and recommending revenue generation opportunities.

Striving for academic excellence, the Chair is also responsible to identify and promote instructor learning/development opportunities, perform classroom observations, provide coaching and mentoring, and promote the health and the well-being of staff and students.

The Chair promotes applied research activity within the program through collaboration and participation on related projects. The Chair is an integral part of the JRSSB Leadership Team.


Being highly collaborative by nature, comfortable in an environment of change and thoroughly invested in process improvement will be critical to success in this position.

Relationship building will be a large component of the position; therefore, being respectful, open-minded and supportive will also be key.

Enrollment and completion of CAP (Championing Academic Practices) is mandatory.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Mentors, motivates, coaches and provides guidance to instructors to ensure instructor excellence within the program.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection and orientation of instructors dedicated to NAIT's visions, promises and values.
  • Recommends staff development opportunities for the instructional staff to the Department Head.
  • Provides instruction to students and fulfill instructional responsibilities.
  • Encourages and promotes scholarly activity at the program instructional level.
  • Implements best practices related to curriculum management to ensure courses and programs offered are relevant and of the highest quality.
  • Initiates and supports program accreditation activities to ensure the program is compliant with provincial/national accreditation standards and leads the program in striving for continual quality improvement.
  • Participates in activities that relate to student recruitment, retention and program promotion.
  • Collaborates with the Department Head to manage program instructor workloads and schedules based on instructional expertise and operational needs.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean Industry Engagement to engage with industry and external stakeholders, as well as other postsecondary institutions, for the purpose of ensuring program relevancy.

Qualifications

  • Related Master's degree
  • Leadership experience

As outlined in the NASA Collective Agreement

  • Appointment to this assignment is for a threeyear term with the possibility of a further threeyear extension. _
  • This position is covered by the NASA (NAIT Academic Staff Association) Collective Agreement._
