JOB DESCRIPTION:
A Constituency Assistant is a confidential employee responsible for the administration of the Constituency Office of a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
- Helping constituents by:
- Providing assistance and advocacy in their dealings with the provincial government,
- Providing information about provincial government legislation and policies, including the
- MLA and government's position on provincial issues.
- Being an empathetic and responsive voice to help them navigate government.
- Building Community by:
- Supporting the MLA's work within their communities through creative and active
- Preparing communications (digital and paper) including advertising, mailings, newsletters, websites and social media.
- Recruiting, training and supervising Constituency Office volunteers and practicum students, as required.
- Participating in and executing on strategic planning that builds community engagement and supports the principles of reconciliation, antiracism and creating an inclusive environment.
- Managing the daytoday operations of the Constituency Office, including correspondence, bookkeeping, information management and other office duties, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to write clearly, concisely, and professionally for a wide variety of audiences.
- Excellent technical skills in communications and graphic design and experience and skills in working with a range of social media channels and digital communications would be an asset.
- Experience with community engagement and outreach are strong assets that would help you be successful in the role.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills from customer service or public facing roles.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective information and advocacy strategies and to exercise diplomacy and political judgement.
- Ability to administer the various aspects of a community office. Specific skills in computers, word processing, bookkeeping and clerical functions, are required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively and with flexibility.
- Knowledge of the structure and policies of the New Democratic Party and a fundamental knowledge of the role of the three levels of government.
- Familiarity with Vancouver-Hastings communities, demographics, and key issues.
- Ability to speak Mandarin and/or Cantonese would be a strong asset.
- Ability to travel and work on weekends and holidays as required.
OTHER DETAILS:
- Position is for 3 months, with the possibility of extension.
- This is a bargaining unit position: BCGEU Local 703. Benefits as per the collective agreement. Temporary employees receive 4% in lieu of benefits and 6% in lieu of vacation.
