As an integral part of our team, Educational Assistants play a central role in cultivating a nurturing school environment for our special learners. Working under the guidance of our Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Head Teacher, Educational Assistants provide personalized academic sessions, facilitate small group activities, implement effective behavior management techniques, oversee special programs, and supervise students during play breaks.

Job Overview:


We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Educational Assistant with expertise in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to join our team.

As an Educational Assistant, you will work closely with students with autism to provide support in their educational and behavioral development.

Your role will involve implementing ABA strategies, collaborating with teachers and therapists, and fostering a supportive learning environment for students with diverse needs.


Duties:


Individualized Support:

Provide one-on-one assistance to students with autism in classroom/ threapy settings, ensuring their individualized education plans (IEPs) and Behavioural Support Plan (BSPs) are effectively implemented.


ABA Implementation:
Implement ABA techniques and interventions to support students in achieving their academic and behavioral goals.

Behavior Management:
Utilize proactive strategies and positive reinforcement techniques to address challenging behaviors and promote skill development.

Data Collection and Analysis:

Collect data on student progress and behavior, and collaborate with the supervising behavior analyst to analyze data for effective intervention planning.


Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other educational staff to develop and implement comprehensive support plans tailored to each student's needs.


Assistive Technology:
Facilitate the use of assistive technology and other resources to enhance learning and communication for students with autism.

Social Skills Development:
Support students in developing social skills and fostering peer interactions through structured activities and socialization opportunities.

Communication:

Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers, providing regular updates on student progress and collaborating on strategies for home and school consistency.


Inclusion Support:
Promote inclusion and integration of students with autism in mainstream classroom activities, providing necessary support and accommodations.

Professional Development:

Stay informed about current best practices and research in the field of autism and ABA, and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.


Qualifications:

  • A college diploma or university degree (in related field)
  • Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders and implementing ABA techniques.
  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities, behavior management strategies, and evidencebased interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting the unique needs of students with autism.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse learning styles and individualized support needs.
  • Certification or training in ABA is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting or working with children with special needs is an asset.
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or CPI Training is a assest.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum is an asset
