2024 Student Labourer Positions

(Term, April 2- August 25, $20.43/hr.)

Applicants for Student Labourer positions must meet the following minimum requirements:
educational program and be returning in a full-time capacity September 2024. The City of
Pickering will accept any of the following to verify enrolment in college or university:

  • Registrar's letter confirming enrolment and academic eligibility for the next semester.
  • Letter or screenshot confirming your anticipated graduation date.
  • Letter or screen shot indicating that you have more credits left to complete in your current
degree.

Student Labourer, Parks & Property
Student Labourers, Parks & Property are responsible for performing maintenance duties on City
owned parklands and property. Typical duties include cutting grass, assisting with maintenance and
repairs, planting and maintenance of horticulture displays, and operating light machinery and power
tools.


Note:
Preference will be given to applicants with related experience and the ability to operate light
machinery, and/or who are currently enrolled in a Horticulture or Forestry related program.


Student Labourer, Roads
Student Labourers, Roads are responsible for performing various duties primarily associated with the
maintenance and repair of City roads and property. Typical duties include flagging traffic, assisting
with general and preventative maintenance of machinery and equipment, operating light machinery,
light truck, and power hand tools.


Municipal Infrastructure Student
Municipal Infrastructure Student is responsible for performing various engineering duties primarily
associated with the inspection and inventory of assets and infrastructure on municipal roads and
property.

Note:
An
Engineering program is required for the Municipal Infrastructure Student position.
Previous public works or civil engineering related experience, relevant planning skills, such as
understanding of/or previous use of GIS would be considered an asset.


Student Clerk, Public Works
Student Clerk, Public Works provides administrative, clerical and customer service support to the
Public Works Section, directing calls to the appropriate contact or service, and responding to
enquiries of a general nature.

Note:
Must have four to six months experience in an office environment, demonstrated proficiency in
the use of personal computers with a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows based computer
