About the Role


The Communications and Events Manager will play a highly visible and integral role in the development of the Vancouver Island Ferry Company and the Hullo ferry service.

You will be responsible for development and execution of the communication strategy, media relations, event management and community outreach. This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to deliver high-value, impactful work within a lean, powerful, and agile team.

Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Sales, the Communications and Events Manager will have exposure across revenue management, operations, corporate development, and technology to support the launch of our new, game changing service.


The primary focus of the Communications and Events Manager is the development and implementation of omnichannel communication strategies, including media relations, and event management.

These tactics will drive our guest experience principles and a promote a positive guest experience and loyalty.

With a heavy focus on data and the guest experience, the manager will develop reports on the performance of communication and events through KPIs and brand metrics.

The manager will be included in selection, training, development, coaching, performance management, and other people management practices, including the collaboration and overseeing cross-functional Brand activities.


Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage and execute the strategic communication plan and objectives for the corporate and service brands, led by the broader marketing strategy set by the Marketing Director and CRO
  • Partner with the technology, guest experience and brand teams on a consistent basis to align on objectives, and messaging
  • Work with inhouse brand and creative agencies to brief, plan and execute integrated communication plans.
  • Leads the development and design of new and ongoing content and media programs designed to increase awareness and build reputational trust
  • Coordinate and collaborate public relations and corporate communication activities within marketing, such as gotomarket, product & innovation, as well as internal stakeholders and leadership to develop and communicate key campaigns and messaging
  • Drive local engagement strategies and programs for impactful results
  • Manage the event/marketing budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility on a monthly basis
  • Plan, organize, and execute leadership, community, and employee events
  • Handle all aspects of event planning, including budgeting and logistics
  • Create seamless and delightful experiences for participants
  • Safeguard our brand by monitoring, managing, and improving our reputation across online outlets
  • Develop, manage, and coordinate crisis messaging to internal and external stakeholders, while adhering to the outlined review and approvals process
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to internal/external audiences on issues such as campaign planning, execution, and analysis
  • Track communications metrics
