    Description

    Job Summary:

    Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, the incumbent assists with ensuring the effective use of staffing resources, delivery of programs, activities, services and special events in the Aquatic Centre.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Aquatic Supervisor to assess community needs, coordinate, research, plan, develop, schedule, deliver, implement, promote, organize and evaluate a variety of diversified aquatics programs, services and special events.
  • Plans, schedules, directs and ensures the quality of work of assigned staff. Also trains assigned staff and contributes to their recruitment, performance appraisals and disciplinary action.
  • Liaises and collaborates with stakeholders to organize marketing initiatives, availability of space, equipment, materials, instructors, volunteers, support workers, etc.
  • Performs administrative duties including, but not limited to, copying, faxing, scanning, scheduling appointments, arranging meetings, coordinating departmental activities, arranging travel, recording minutes, drafting and following up on correspondence, , conducting research, compiling statistics, preparing reports and creating forms.
  • Maintains aquatic equipment inventory.
  • Ensures the general cleanliness of and contributes to the overall maintenance plans for the Aquatic Centre.
  • Follows, and ensures that reporting staff follow, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards.
  • Acts as Supervisor, Aquatic as assigned.
  • Other related duties.
  • Number of Hires Needed 1 Position Requirements

    Working Conditions:

    Majority of work is performed in a public recreation setting with some exposure to hot, moist, noisy conditions and bodily fluids. Hours of work are between 05:00 and 12:00 AM Sunday to Saturday. Regular evening and weekend work is required.

    Knowledge and Skills:

  • 2- year diploma in recreation administration, leisure studies or facility management
  • 3 years' progressive experience as a lifeguard/instructor, including one year at a supervisory level
  • 6 months on the job experience.
  • Lifesaving instructor certification
  • National lifeguard certification
  • Swim instructor certification
  • Aqua fitness instructor certification
  • Standard first aid and CPR to level C and AED
  • Workplace hazardous materials information systems (WHMIS)
  • RCMP vulnerable sector check
  • Good analytical, organizational, prioritizing skills with the ability to multitask with minimal supervision.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license.
  • Certifications required within 2 years (2 of the following):

  • Lifesaving Instructor Trainer (LST)
  • National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI)
  • First Aid Instructor (FAI)
  • Aqua fitness instructor trainer
  • Pool Operators 1
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
