Intent of the process:

The intent of this process is to staff three (3) positions on an indeterminate basis in Edmonton, Alberta. Please note the results may also be used to staff other positions with various tenures within the Informatics Branch.


Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Information you must provide:

Your résumé.

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed (e.g., electronics technology)


Notes:

  • Indeterminate incumbents in the IT group on December 9, 2021 who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
  • Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
  • At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.
Degree equivalency

Experience providing technical support to users and resolving related information technology (IT) infrastructure, electronics or communications infrastructure issues

Experience testing or troubleshooting electronic devices, communications equipment, or IT infrastructure (e.g., computers, servers)

Experience preparing basic technical documentation

Experience installing and/or upgrading IT or electronics equipment

Note:
Experience must be obtained in a work, academic and/or lab environment.

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundations certification

Certification from major software vendors, such as Microsoft, Cisco, Google, Amazon Web Services, CompTIA

Certification as a technology professional with one or more of the following or equivalent designations by a provincial professional organization recognized by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB):
Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)
Applied Science Technologist (AScT)
Professional Technologist (PTech)
The Association of Science & Engineering Technology (ASET)

Experience with wireless communications systems and equipment (e.g., WiFi, cellular technologies, P25 land mobile radio)

Experience supporting or troubleshooting internet protocol (IP) data networks

Experience troubleshooting or supporting Android operating system (OS) based devices

Experience recommending and implementing improvements to processes and procedures

Experience managing incidents according to the ITIL procedures and guidelines
