About the Faculty of Medicine

Position purpose:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Academic Services and Project Manager.

Provides guidance and support to students by offering tools, resources, counselling and psychotherapy to help them develop the skills, abilities and lifestyle habits that promote well-being and mental health.

Works closely with the University community on matters relating to student well-being and mental health.


In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Individual counselling:

In line with the recommended service delivery model and using a student-centered approach and their strengths, meet individually with students to assess their emotional, psychological and relational development to then develop and implement interventions short-term therapies that contribute to their well-being.

Intervene with students experiencing psychological and emotional problems and manage crisis situations, including suicidal crises, in accordance with the code of ethics of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario or equivalent, in order to ensure the safety of all The parties involved.

If necessary, refer students to more specialized or longer-term services elsewhere at the University or in the community so that they can benefit from mental health care that meets their needs.


Group counselling:

Design and lead group counseling sessions and psychoeducational workshops in order to reach as many students as possible at the same time and to promote the creation of networks of mutual aid and social integration, thus developing their resilience to studies.


Expert Advisors:

Act as an expert advisor to the university community regarding student mental health and well-being in order to promote the appropriation of knowledge on student needs and various situations personal experience of students.


Team Coaching:
Supervise a team of professionals working to provide mental health clinical and crisis management services.

Advise team members on best practices and actions to take on complex and risky cases for personal and other safety.

Consult your supervisor or manager for any critical incident requiring higher level intervention.


Project Management:

Lead a team of professionals working on a variety of projects related to the delivery of mental health and wellness services.

Support team members in project planning and management, as well as work methods and processes. Ensure the delivery and drafting of accounts for charged projects.


Records management:

Prepare and maintain detailed records of each student met, thus making it possible to trace the sequence and nature of the professional services rendered.

Ensure the effective management of these files in order to respect their confidentiality in accordance with the regulations of the University and the guidelines of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.


Supervision of Others:

May, depending on his/her area of ??expertise and level of experience, supervise the work performed by professional counseling interns and provide it to them to ensure that they meet the needs of the client to the best of their ability.
