Housing Support Worker (overnight awake)


Applicants must have an avid interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds that are facing challenges related to homelessness, drug addiction and/or mental illness in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skills required to perform this role successfully. The selected applicant will work on a rotating schedule (overnight) alongside other housing support workers.


Qualifications, Skills and Trainings

  • Experience working with complex social issues including rehousing & homelessness and its impacts on families and individuals.
  • Personal resilience, a keen and committed desire to help and support clients. This includes the ability to cope with crisis situations and/or stressful events in a solutionsfocused approach.
  • Knowledge of strengthsbased, traumainformed, harmreduction services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial and local social service resources.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional communication practices.
  • Capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Good skills in communication, planning & organizing, problem solving & decision making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in French will be considered an asset.
  • Education: college or university degree in social sciences (including but not limited to Human Service Counsellor, Bachelor of Social Work) or possess relevant experience in the field of practice.
  • Mandatory training in nonviolent crisis intervention, suicide intervention (Assist) and opioid response will be required for this position. If certification needs to be completed the employee agrees to be certified at the earliest provided training.
  • Must have own vehicle & business car insurance as the role will involve driving to various locations in the GMA.

Tasks

  • Enforce rules and guidelines of lease agreements in order to ensure safety and wellbeing of clients within Rising Tide properties.
  • Assess the physical, behavioral, and emotional state of the clients and intervene appropriately and respectfully.
  • Work in close collaboration with community partners, including other service agencies, mental health providers, medical providers, and government agencies to support clients to address their needs and achieve their goals.
  • Provide timely, accurate documentation of services/care coordination activities utilizing internal and external databases while maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities, including webinars, seminars, and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and related to housing services including but not limited to light housekeeping.
  • Flexible working hours may be required.

Salary:
$35,000.00-$45,000.00 per year
