Job Posting

  • Reporting to the Director, Talent & Total Rewards, the Total Rewards Generalist will focus primarily on operational tasks to support the management of existing Compensation programs and development of new programs. The role is responsible for conducting research and analysis in different areas involving total rewards, specifically Compensation. Duties include supporting in position evaluations, job classifications, preparing job descriptions, pulling and analyzing data, researching trends and best practices to help support in decision making.
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Analysis & Research

  • Researches trends, best practices
  • Participates in corporate projects
  • Participates in group discussions with business stakeholders
  • Develops and delivers presentations
  • Develops business cases
  • Analyzes and interprets data

Compensation

  • Monitor and research national, regional and local Compensation and Rewards practices and trends in order to identify areas for the enhancement of HRM's value proposition and talent management tools.
  • Participate in salary surveys, perform analysis of results to assist in the development of market position for adjustments to pay bands and/or specific job functions.
  • Coordinate job evaluation processes, including significant change analysis, maintaining job evaluation databases, participate on job evaluation committee, participate in job evaluation systems review and design development projects
  • Support in establishing individual salary levels for new hires, acting assignments, promotions, special duties, compression, etc.
  • Participate in the delivery of the annual ISA program including validation, calculation and results review.
  • Collect data for bargaining advisory team as required; assist in postbargaining rollout where compensation issues are impacted
  • Support the develop and implement strategies and programs focused on the following areas: Performance Management, Talent Development and Succession Management, and Workforce Planning.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Must have a minimum of two years generalist experience in the human resources profession.
  • Undergraduate degree; certificate or diploma with a focus in HR Management or related area of study from a recognized and accredited educational institution.
  • Must have advanced proficiency using Excel to analyze data; preparing ad hoc and standard reports and dashboards; and metrics.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problemsolving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex situations, tasks or problems, analyze them using a systematic approach and identify patterns and connections between situations that are not inherently obvious.
  • Demonstrated experience providing excellence in a client service environment.

Asset:


  • Recognition as a Certified Human Resources Professional is an asset
  • CEBS or World at Work designation is an asset.
  • Experience working in a diverse and decentralized organization, ideally in the public sector is an asset
  • Experience with job evaluation or Compensation is an asset.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset.

Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities

  • Current knowledge of HR trends and a good understanding of Compensation
  • Research skills
  • Effective at building partnerships, both inside and outside the team, and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
  • Understanding of total reward practices, and other applicable municipal, provincial, and federal legislation.
  • A strong knowledge of labor laws compensation and privacy standards are beneficial.
  • Good knowledge of the HAY job evaluation system

WORK STATUS:

Permanent, Full-time

HOURS OF WORK: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday; 35 hours per week


SALARY:
Non-Union Level 5 $60,800-$83,530 annually (salary to be commensurate with experience)

Purdy's Wharf Tower 2, 1969 Upper Water Street, Halifax, NS.
