The Hutter lab in the Biology department at Simon Fraser University (Burnaby campus) is looking for a Research Technician joining a project to generate gene knock-outs (KOs) using a CRISPR/Cas9 strategy in _C.
elegans_.The goal of this project is to efficiently generate deletions in genes that are relevant for a variety of human diseases, with a special emphasis on Alzheimer's Disease.
The individual will assist in all aspects of generating KOs and perform general lab duties.
Tasks include designing homology arms and guide RNAs using bioinformatics tools, preparing constructs for microinjection using various molecular biology techniques (e.g., Gibson Assembly, bacterial transformation, mini prep), micro-injecting CRISPR constructs into C.
General lab duties include but are not limited to:
media preparation, pouring agarose plates, maintaining worm stocks, autoclaving, lab upkeep etc. In addition, the individual will maintain detailed records of tasks performed. Good laboratory practices, including sterile technique, are a must. The ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with others is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS
Salary:
From $40,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

- Burnaby, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
