Summary:


The Nurse Practitioner is an integral member of the emergency health care team in the provision of comprehensive health care services.

The Primary care nurse practitioner demonstrates autonomy by assuming and having sole accountability and the authority to independently communicate a diagnosis, prescribe drugs and a range of diagnostic tests within the scope of practice.


Responsibilities:


The key responsibilities to achieving the NP purpose include: utilizing and demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge, critical thinking and decision making skills to assess, diagnose, plan and effectively manage the patient.

The focus of the NP is to implement strategies that promote health and prevent illness, lead, develop and implement professional development activities / programs that support quality of work life and patient outcomes.

**Qualifications: - Completion of a recognized Bachelors degree program in Nursing, Masters preferred

  • Completion of a postbaccalaureate certificate program in Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as RN(EC)
  • Membership in Nurses Association of Ontario organizations relevant to the role
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Five (5) years experience in ED/Acute care preferred
  • Five (5) years experience in Emergency Services preferred
  • Experience in and or understanding of nursing research, program planning and evaluation methodology
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to GRH standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multitask
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated coaching, mentoring skills as well as superior presentation and consultative skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, GRH and/or departmental standards
  • Client service oriented, ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate differences in opinions, backgrounds and characteristics
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Commitment to collaborative practice
  • Ability to utilize information technology
  • Good attendance record
