The Opportunity:


Accountable to the Manager, the Clinical Leader Development (CLD) plans, develops, and implements educational activities at a unit/team-based level, to foster the development of competence in the learner.

This position will have a primary responsibility to support learning and competency with the renal dialysis unit (RDU), but may also provide some support for hem/onc/neph CLD coverage as required.

The CLD participates actively in the development of peers and learners through coaching and mentorship and sharing knowledge and resources and providing feedback.

Provides expert clinical practice support to front-line staff, as well as to healthcare team members and patients. Functions as a change agent by thinking reflectively, assessing alternatives, and supporting change.

Participates in the recruitment and selection of personnel to attend appropriate education programs, events, conference, etc ensuring limited resources are allocated fairly and equitable.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to Providing orientation to new staff members and preceptors including roles and responsibilities; Acting as a resource to preceptors for ongoing preceptor development; Coordinates learner placements for designated areas of practice; Acting as a clinical resource within the care team related to patient care, continuing education, development and/or review policies, objectives and guidelines.

In collaboration with PDC plans educational programs to meet identified learning needs; Acts as a liaison among health care team members in identifying patient care issues.

Uses knowledge of theories of human communication and interpersonal relationships to facilitate communication among staff; Provides leadership in the delivery of evidence-based nursing care and facilitates the integration of research into meeting established patient care standards/guidelines/protocols; Seizes informal and formal learning opportunities to educate colleagues on an; Supports unit based strategic plans and initiatives.


Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday. Flexibility required - total of 15 hours/week


Your Qualifications:


  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with CRNNS required.
  • Master's Degree is considered an asset.
  • Five (5) years of clinical experience in Pediatric Nephrology required, with Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.
  • Current RDU/nephrology patient care nursing experience required
  • Demonstrated competency in Hemodialysis, Apheresis, and Peritoneal Dialysis, and the ability to maintain those competencies required
  • APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Status considered an asset.
  • Current CPR Level C Health Care Provider Certification within the last 12 months required
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in providing constructive feedback required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be nonjudgmental, with the ability to facilitate change required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedures as they pertain to the Hematology/Oncology/Nephrology populations required (emphasis on Nephrology).
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive and selfdirected with excellent organization, time management, and problemsolving skills required.
  • Demonstrated superior communication, interpersonal, and decisionmaking skills required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to create an environment where ongoing learning and development are promoted and supported required.
  • Instructorlevel registration in appropriate life support courses (eg. BCLS) is an asset.
  • Certification in specialty practice (eg. CPON/CPHON, Nephrology certification) preferred.
  • Competencies in other languages
