    What you'll do

    The selected candidate will join the Planning Coordinator Office as a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer. The primary responsibilities of the senior planning engineer include supporting the BC Hydro Planning Coordinator (PC) Function, as defined under the BC Mandatory Reliability Program. Tasks involve planning and coordinating transmission planning activities with multiple Transmission Planners (TPs) in the BC Hydro PC area, as well as adjacent TPs and PCs.

    Additionally, the planning engineer will conduct necessary technical studies specified in the Mandatory Reliability Standards applicable to PC. For example, the successful candidate will perform planning activities related to FAC-002, TPL-001, TPL-007, MOD-032, and MOD-033 Standards.
    • Conduct independent power system analyses, including power flow studies, stability assessments and possibly short circuit calculations.
    • Propose system reinforcement alternatives to address potential constraints.
    • Develop a Geomagnetic Induced Current (GIC) model for the BC Hydro PC area. Perform GIC/GMD (Geomagnetic Disturbance) studies and collaborate with stakeholders to develop corrective action plans.
    • Collect power system disturbance data and validate steady-state and dynamic power system models used in BC Hydro PC area.
    • Independently assess interconnection system impact studies from BC Hydro Planning Coordinator perspective and develop coordinated solution working with impacted Entities.
    • Represent BC Hydro PC interests in WECC/NERC working groups.
