Position Summary

Centennial College's School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science (SETAS) is immediately hiring a Finance and Business Officer to support with day-to-day financial operations.

The Finance and Business Officer acts as the first point of contact regarding all payroll and budget inquiries. The incumbent reports directly to the Operations Manager and works closely with the Finance Officers within the school.

The Finance and Business Officer supports the team through gathering information, maintaining digital records, supporting in the preparation and monitoring of school budgets, and running reports.


Responsibilities

  • Reviews and audits all contracts submitted by staff, ensuring terms in the Faculty and Support Staff Collective Agreements are observed
  • Coordinates contract submission to payroll on a timely basis to meet payroll deadlines
  • Liaises with Payroll, responding to errors/issues and ensures discrepancies are corrected
  • Prepares and reviews month and year end reconciliation of all accounts
  • Completes salary calculations for faculty, ensuring that the information is accurate, coordinating efforts with Human Resources/Payroll as required.
  • Assists the Senior Finance Officer to develop reports and ensure reporting systems are in place to provide Dean with accurate and timely budget updates.
  • Monitors the actual cost and budgeted amount for contract faculty hiring by maintaining appropriate data
  • Assists with the development of the Six-Month Report, Year-End activities and preparation of the School fiscal budgets.
  • Tracks, monitors and prepares paperwork regarding any changes to fulltime employees' payroll throughout the year including secondments, leaves of absence, sick/maternity/prepaid leaves, prorated workloads, regular layoffs, professional leaves, 11th month pay, overtime and step increases.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

  • 3year Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive finance and general accounting experience, including demonstrated experience supporting financial, budget, payroll and AP/AR activities.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving and analysis skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, with advanced MS Excel and Word
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to cope under pressure associated with the management of numerous highvolume tasks in a busy service environment; high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
