POSITION PURPOSE


The Asset Supervisor will provide leadership for the artists and be the key point of contact for the projects they are assigned to.

Focusing on projects, you will mentor and guide the Leads and Artists making sure we maintain department standards set by the Head of Assets.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborating with the Head of Assets, you will implement the vision for the department on specific projects, making sure a high quality level is maintained throughout the work.
  • Help productions run efficiently by providing their assets on schedule on budget. Ensuring all shows feel supported from an asset perspective.
  • Ensure the quality of the assets meet the expectations of the project and Image Engine standards.
  • Brief leads and artists on their work.
  • Participate in bidding assets.
  • Assist leads and artists to troubleshoot asset related challenges.
  • Help supervise and prioritise assets across multiple shows within the asset department.
  • Work closely with CG and VFX supervisors as well as other Department Supervisors.
  • Be the point of contact for any asset related questions for a given project. Know how the asset will be used and what the plan is for creating the asset.
  • Review other vendor's shared assets and manage how the assets should be ingested into the IE pipeline.
  • Participate in interviews for potential new hires.
  • Support and mentor leads within the asset department. Be a positive influence and help foster growth within the asset department.
  • Help prioritise tickets across the asset department.
  • Collaborate with Workflow, Pipeline Support and Dev teams to develop new tools and continue to refine the asset creation pipeline.
  • Work closely with supervisors to strategize on how to best execute work for asset centric shots.
  • Promote a positive team relationship between the Asset departments and help bridge the gap between them.
  • Provide artist feedback and participate in artist reviews.
  • Continue to look for more efficient ways to create assets.
  • Contribute to the creation of documentation for the Asset department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 7 years experience in VFX for film and television
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Lead
  • Supervisory experience is an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail when finalising, approving or quality controlling shots
  • Demonstrated experience teaching/mentoring coworkers

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical skills

  • Excellent eye for detail and quality control.
  • Experience with Linux based OS.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant software (Maya/Houdini/Nuke/etc).
  • Ability to train and coach artists in techniques and approaches.

Core skills

  • Passion, enthusiasm, curiosity.
  • Excellent collaborator with shows and the facility.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities.
  • Capable of managing a team of artists; setting expectations, and managing their time.
  • Ability to assess an artist's strengths and weaknesses to assign tasks and manage workflow.
  • Strong desire and ability to help artists grow technically, creatively and as individuals.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solver who can focus on detail, while maintaining the whole picture.
  • Ability to complete bids; determine the timeframe and scope required for each project.
