Job description

As a key member of the hotel leadership team, the Director of Sales has influence and accountability for the revenue generation and marketing efforts of the property. Reporting to the General Manager as well as the Regional Director of Sales, the Director of Sales will be responsible for maintaining the highest level of ethical leadership to lead the property to achieve its business goals by driving revenue, maximizing profitability and outstanding quality service for the customers. The Director of Sales will ensure achievement of overall financial results, guest satisfaction and positive employee relations. Preference will also be given to those with experience in the Ottawa hotel market. Only those that are legally able to work in Canada will be considered.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements sales strategies to drive business in new and existing markets and deliver a high-quality guest experience.
  • Achieves established room night quotas and sales call quotas.
  • Proactively solicits and qualifies existing and new business to achieve personal revenue goals, hotel revenue goals, and restaurant revenue goals. This will be done through sales calls, prospecting, trade shows, promotions, inquiries, telephone contacts and sales trips.
  • Establishes and maintains positive business and customer relationships.
  • Promptly sends proposals, contracts and other sales correspondence.
  • Accurately confirms all bookings, quotes and negotiated rates while adhering to the hotels rate structure, credit policies and general hotels policies and procedures.
  • Maintains an up-to-date accurate client file, any database and tracking system.
  • Determines and develops marketing communication activities.
  • Researches markets to identify potential sources of business and increase market share.
  • Responsible for full market knowledge as it relates to competitors and industry trends.
  • Maintains close contact with the client or group while in-house to ensure satisfaction and to enable re-solicitation for future business.
  • Produces and implements quarterly action plan to achieve weekly activities quotas and annual revenue goal.
  • Develops the annual Sales & Marketing plan
  • Ensures excellent lines of communication with other departments.
  • Attends related tradeshows and conducts sales trips as required to find new business and manage existing partnerships.
  • Conducts site tours for clients. Entertains clients in-house or in restaurants near client's offices, and at approved social functions.
  • Represents the hotel to the local community.
  • Works with Operations teams to ensure the appropriate hotel implementation of special promotions and sales initiatives as well as guest satisfaction and recovery.
  • Assists and coordinates with revenue management team for pricing strategy for the hotel.
  • Prepares weekly sales reports and attends weekly departmental and staff meetings
  • Assists and coordinates with weekly forecast, 90 day forecast and budget process.
  • Monitors and analyzes sales performance metrics, providing regular reports to the General Manager and Regional Director of Sales & Marketing.
  • Other duties as assigned by General Manager and Regional Director of Sales & Marketing.
