Job Summary

A Brief Overview

Reporting to the Programs Manager, the Graduate Program Assistant is responsible for the daily administration and operation for Graduate Programs within the School of Nursing.

The incumbent acts as a departmental resource person for the Graduate Nursing Programs and Health Quality Programs, and is responsible for important customer/client service functions with program students and interested parties.

The Graduate Program Assistant may also receive direction from the Graduate Program Coordinator, Associate Director (Graduate Programs) and the Vice-Dean (Health Sciences) and Director, School of Nursing.


What you will do

  • Coordinates the promotion of awards including supporting the selection process, submitting payment request forms and/or issuing letters. Compiles and/or processes information for student awards scholarships and/or fellowship rankings.
Administers experience and/or instructor evaluations of students and alumni.

  • Acts as a first point of contact and provides administrative support to committee(s).
  • Updates department websites. Supports program recruitment including attending conferences, preparing marketing materials, and updating program communications.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education

  • Two-Year Community College Diploma.
- in business administration preferred.


Required Experience

  • More than 2 years and up to and including 3 years of experience. Experience working at a postsecondary education institution considered an asset.
  • Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems Administration considered an asset (e.g., Oracle-PeopleSoft, etc.).
  • Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, policy manuals, newsletters, handbooks, legal documents, forms/templates, blogs, training/reference materials, technical documents, webinars, etc.).
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Break down concrete issues into parts and selects best solution from clear alternatives and past practices.
  • Acknowledge and respect diverse cultural traditions and beliefs.
  • Question attitudes, comments and behaviours which are discriminatory and seeks out appropriate resources to remove these from the workplace.
