  • Paragon is currently seeking Intermediate Soil Specialists to join our team. Compensation will be commensurate with experience._

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assisting and/or leading soil survey programs, from proposals and project startup through to the final deliverable submission
  • Contributing to field programs as a crew or field lead depending on experience, while building the skills and knowledge required to take on larger, more complex projects and roles
  • Working cooperatively with technical, HSE, GIS, and administrative colleagues to successfully deliver our products
  • Serving as Project Manager on small to medium sized projects or assisting Project Managers on larger projects with various tasks as they arise
  • Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to: data management through the collection, entry, synthesis and reporting phases; preparing field reports; ground disturbance preparation; hazard assessments; sample processing and delivery
  • Providing input on how best to use technology to improve the soil survey process
  • Attending workshops, meetings, and other similar events
  • Exercising good judgment in situations that are not covered by policies and procedures
  • Pursuing continuing education and additional professional development
  • Preparing regular, timely and accurate timesheets, expense reports and other relevant documentation
  • Assisting with equipment maintenance and safety

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


You must have the following attributes:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science or Diploma in Environmental Science or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institute
  • Eligibility to register with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA)
  • At least three (3) years of soil survey experience including experience leading as a crew lead
  • Physical capacity for strenuous fieldwork, including augering deep inspection sites and walking several kilometres through rough terrain
  • An absolute, genuine dedication to safe work
  • Ability to be productive while working independently as well as in a team setting
  • Resultsoriented and efficient, with excellent problemsolving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an affinity for working respectfully with colleagues and clients at all levels
  • Proficient with computers and software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (at least an intermediate level of proficiency)
  • Comfortable using advanced GPS units or tablets
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License, with clean drivers abstract, able to travel throughout the provinces and work weekends when necessary

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Safety Certificates including First Aid, Advanced driver training, GDII, H2S, OSSA, CSTS, PCST, WHMIS, Bear Aware, ATV/UTV
  • ATV/UTV/Argo experience
  • Current registration with the AIA as a full professional member (P.Ag or R.TAg)
  • Plant identification skills
