    Independent Contractor Opportunity - Civil Engineer


    The Village of Lytton has a unique opportunity for a Civil Engineer to work as part of the municipal team on a contract basis to support infrastructure and rebuilding projects undertaken by the Village of Lytton.

    The Village of Lytton is located at the confluence of the Thompson and Fraser Rivers and the junction of Highway kilometres south of Lillooet) and the Trans-Canada Highway kilometres north of Hope).

    The Village is located in one of the longest continuously inhabited areas in North America on the Traditional Territory of the Nlaka'pamux people.


    The Village of Lytton is the local government responsible for providing municipal services such as water, wastewater treatment, and public utilities; planning, building and development; bylaws and enforcement; fire rescue; legislative services; financial services; recreation and parks; and communications.


    Lytton is rebuilding after the Lytton Creek Fire of June 30, 2021, which destroyed over 90 per cent of the Village including municipal buildings.

    The water and sewer infrastructure was not destroyed, but impacted and will be undergoing major repairs and replacement over the next several years.


    The Engineer will be part of the Recovery team and work collaboratively with Operations, Planning, and Building Departments as the Village rebuilding continues.

    The Engineer will be a key advisor to the Village Council and the Chief Administrative Officer, particularly for procurement to complete the necessary water and sewer projects.


    The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a professional engineer designation and minimum of five years related experience in the design and construction of municipal infrastructure, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Candidates must be registered as a P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

    The contract opportunity will require some travel to Lytton to fully engage in the projects. The Contract will go to December 31, 2024, with the potential for extension, depending on funding. The Contractor will work up to 40 hours per week, depending on construction and repair schedules.
