The Opportunity

  • Temporary 20 HR per week for 12 months
  • Temporary 40 HR per week for 6 months
  • Seasonal summer capacity (May - August)

These positions will report to the Facility Maintenance supervisor, located at the Community Knowledge Campus (CKC), a division of the Corporate Facility Management Department.

Pool Operators work independently and maintain water quality including operation of pool mechanical systems, completing water tests and water balancing, scheduled maintenance, and fulfilling all requirements of required health standards.

Reads information and monitors gauges for observing safe levels.

Adds chemicals and performs follow-up, deals with pool contaminations; conducts chemical inventory; orders, ships and receives while ensuring all public pool safety standards are met.


  • Responsible to assist in preventive maintenance plans of the facility within assigned areas.
  • Ensure facility is safe, neat and clean while holding a standard of excellence.
  • Performs trouble shooting and follows procedures to call for extra help.
  • Starting, shutting down and performing checks on the various activities areas including pools, splash pads, wave areas, saunas and any new activities that may be added.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Responsibilities

The Eastlink Centre, located on the CKC site, is a 450,000 square foot health and fitness facility offering aquatic and recreation activities to a wide range of users.

The site provides a mix of aquatics and field sports opportunities and can accommodate every athletes needs from beginner to recreational to competitive.

In the Corporate Facility Management Department, and under the leadership of the Facility Maintenance Manager, you will work with a dynamic team of Community Knowledge Campus staff.


  • You will have the ability to work independently, and be reliable in all aspects of your role.
  • Effective organizational skills are required to record and compare critical information, in detail.
  • You will also need the ability to make decisions in innovative ways, while problem solving and trouble shooting throughout both low and high stress situations.
  • Effective written and verbal communications are necessary. You must show strengths in your interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • You must also have the ability to operate computerized systems and various software programs specific to the corporation, including Microsoft Office.
  • As a casual position short notice for filling shifts is normal.
  • Shift work is required within this department.

You Bring

  • 18 years of age.
  • First Aid/CPR
  • WHMIS
  • Fire Extinguisher training.
  • Experience in maintaining a public swimming pool.

Hours*Two positions at 40 Hours per week. One position at 20 hours per week. Shift work may be required.

Salary/Wage*$35.75 per hour as per CUPE Collective Agreement
