Position Summary:


The Student Achievement Consultant:

Indigenous Education will be responsible to the Superintendent of Education responsible for Indigenous Education and will work closely with the Indigenous Education Lead, Indigenous Education Council and the Student Achievement Team to implement Board and Ministry of Education initiatives and to provide curriculum supports.


Qualifications:


_Basic_:
Junior/Intermediate/Senior Divisions;

First Nation, Métis, and

Inuit Peoples:
Understanding Traditional Teachings, Histories Specialist (or Equivalent)
_Additional:_ Primary Division
_Experience_: Minimum of five (5) years teaching in the secondary or elementary panel Experience teaching First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies curriculum, Equity Studies/ Social Justice, English
_Other_:

  • Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies;
  • Knowledge of Collaborative Inquiry Learning (CIL);
  • Knowledge of the legacy of colonialism in education, equity/antiracist education theories;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Strong technical skills and ability to use a variety of digital platforms;
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, collaboration, organizational and communication skills;
  • Skilled at leading teacher professional development workshops for secondary and elementary educators either virtually or facetoface;
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective assessment practices (e.g. Growing Success);
  • Ability to use technology in the educational context;
  • Excellent presentation and teambuilding skills; and
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate small groups of teaching a collaborative setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:


The Student Achievement Consultant:

Indigenous Education will:

  • Assist with Ministry of Education, Board and Indigenous Education Council initiatives;
  • Prepare, implement and monitor the Annual Board Action Plan;
  • Complete Ministry of Education reports, data collection and analysis;
  • Promote Gospel values, Catholic Social Teachings and the Catholic Graduate Expectations through department and divisional priorities;
  • Arrange and deliver professional development and jobembedded professional learning for teachers, support staff and school administrators;
  • Support educators who teach First Nations, Métis, and Inuit curriculum with culturally relevant competencies;
  • Develop/source Indigenous curriculum resources, develop digital Indigenous focused course material for staff and students;
  • Participate on Board, Interboard, and Ministry Committees and Community Associations;
  • Coplan and comanage budgets to support specific programming in partnership with the Board's Indigenous Education Lead;
  • Coordinate board and school events for students/community and liaise with other program areas to support coherence, develop, implement, and model the use of new Indigenous curriculum resources;
  • Ensure appropriate vetting and evaluation of resources and support materials; and
  • Establish trusting relationships with staff, students and Indigenous communities and liaise directly with Indigenous partners in supporting the academic achievement and wellbeing of Indigenous students.
