Location:
Hybrid (Remote 4 days & In-person 1 day/week if possible); Assigned to Rugby Ontario


Office address:
Abilities Centre, 1 Jim Flaherty Street, Whitby ON L1N 0J2). Some additional days, such as event days, will require being onsite.

Type of Position:
Full-time Term Contract (May-August; TBD based on Canada Summer Jobs approved funding). Non-traditional work hours will be required at times.


Wage:
Ontario Minimum wage ($16.55/hour)

Rugby Ontario is looking to bring on ambitious and dynamic individuals who are looking to develop their skills and experience in sport management and administration, recreation, and non-profit areas.

Under the supervision and mentorship of the Rugby Development Manager and Director of Rugby Operations, the Inclusive Rugby Intern, will be responsible for supporting the growth and delivery of inclusive rugby programs including the Mixed Ability Rugby Program.

This includes building a close working relationship with other members of the Rugby Ontario team and relevant community and club stakeholders, partners, and committees to help promote, develop, deliver, and improve inclusive rugby programming and competitions across the province alongside Rugby Ontario and its member clubs.

Strong communication and inter-personal skills will be important as you will be interacting with individuals in your community of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences.

This coupled with excellent organizational skills will be essential to the successful achievement of this position's objectives.

At the core, we are seeking a strong sport coordinator with a passion to grow this invaluable part of the rugby community.


Eligibility:

To be eligible for employment the individual must**:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.


What You Will Do:

Specific tasks will be assigned by Rugby Ontario but will include some of the following.

  • In collaboration with other Rugby Ontario staff, support the promotion, administration, and coordination of the Mixed Ability Rugby league and related club programs including house leagues. Mixed Ability Rugby is designed for individuals of all ages, gender identities, backgrounds, and abilities to participate in an inclusive rugby game. It is in line with Canada's Sport for Life
  • Long Term Development Model, providing an opportunity for all individuals to be Active for Life.
  • Act as a representative of Rugby Ontario, to engage and develop relationships with schools and community organizations, including those that represent underrepresented communities.
  • Provide clear and timely communication to stakeholders as required.
  • Support the coordination of Mixed Ability Rugby coach, match official, and ambassador training and professional development.
  • Support the promotion and planning of events including Rugby Ontario's All-In Rugby Cup, the provincial championship for inclusive rugby in Ontario, and Come and Try Mixed Ability Rugby events.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of programs and resources to support inclusive rugby programming including volunteer management and development; inclusive and accessible community programming; player recruitment, retention, and transition; inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility; and community outreach and partnerships, among others.
  • Support the review, implementation, and/or creation of Rugby Ontario policies and procedures as they relate to inclusive rugby.
  • Work with Communications and Development Staff to produce and review inclusive rugby related content for Rugby Ontario Newsletters, Website, social media, and other communications.
  • Additional duties as required.
