The Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre at the Trillium Health Partners Credit Valley Hospital is seeking a part-time Physics Associate who will work in collaboration with the Medical Physics team to provide technical support.


The Radiation Treatment program of the Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre treats approximately 4000 patients per year, utilizing 6 radiation treatment suites and 2 CT Simulation suites.

The Radiation Treatment program is a fully integrated and electronic program.

The Cancer Centre is equipped with six Varian Truebeam linear accelerators with state-of-the art IMRT, IGRT and VMAT (RapidArc) technology as well as a 2 CT-simulators.

A fully networked infrastructure for treatment planning on Varian Eclipse on citrix platform for seamless treatment planning and delivery. The Varian ARIA oncology information system provides electronic data for Radiation Oncology.

Current clinical programs include Linac based Stereotactic Radiosurgery (Hyperarc) as well as a state-of-the-art Brachytherapy suite (Elekta Nucletron, Flexitron afterloader).


Position Summary:


As an integral part of our Medical Physics team that currently includes 13 Medical Physicists, 5 Physics Associates, 4 Engineering Technologists, as well as a shared administrative assistant, the Physics Associate performs quality assurance checks on radiotherapy and physics equipment, under the guidance of a Medical Physicist.

Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as required, and variable hours in order to have access to radiotherapy units and other physics equipment.


Responsibility:


Primary responsibility will include performing quality control measurements on radiotherapy and physics equipment, consistent with the Radiation Therapy Quality Assurance Program.

Maintain accurate records of quality control measurements. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


  • Minimum B.Sc. Physics, Physical Sciences or Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and listening);
  • Strong instrumentation skills (experience using radiation detectors and dosimeters is desired);
  • Demonstrated computer skills including ability to use spreadsheets, word processors and databases;
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining the same standard.
