The Health Records Technician reports to the Manager ADT, Health Records and Privacy Officer.
The Health Records department is the custodian of the patient, resident and client health record and is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality, accuracy, integrity, and quality of personal health information.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responds to, and processes inpatient, resident and outpatient client record and chart requests from internal and external sources ensuring proper consent obtained (ROI-Release of Information)
- Maintains an accurate and detailed Release of Information ('ROI') log for medical, legal, insurance, WSIB and other PHI requests
- Performs a variety of clerical and office tasks
- Produces medical reports, correspondence, records, clientcare information, statistics, medical research and administrative material as needed
- Maintains, organizes and processes clinical information to support clinical care.
- Scans, uploads and verifies health information for the EMR (e.g. PCC)
- Assists and carries out quality and/or privacy activities including audits
- Adhere to infection control practices, policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Completion of an accredited program for Health Information Management and a member in good standing with the Canadian College of Health Information Management
- Familiarity and understanding of the Ontario Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and other health records related legislation
- Familiarity and experience with Meditech Medical Records Module is an asset
- Demonstrated problem solving and decisionmaking skills
- Experience in health record assembly
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Effective communication and organizational skills with the ability to set work priorities and work independently
