Overview:


The Manager, Accounting and Financial Analysis is accountable jointly to the Director, Food Services and the Financial Officer, Associate Provost, Students to provide financial management, leadership, expertise, and strategic planning support to ensure the viability of UW Food Services business units.

The incumbent reports to the Director, Food Services in regards to business operations and analysis and to the Financial Officer, Associate Provost, Students in regards to financial accountability and processes.


The incumbent oversees the financial processes, budget analysis, and reporting of all units within Food Services, ensuring that all activities and processes adhere to proper accounting and procurement practices as well as university policies and procedural requirements.

The incumbent also applies data and forecasting strategies for the utilization and effective strategic planning, including department leadership on budgets and planning initiatives.


Food Services, comprising over 600 staff, as a key student, faculty and staff service, helps create and embellish a contemporary service and atmosphere that creates an attractive university environment, operates 27+ units, manages $30+ million sales budget, and processes 3+ million transactions per year.


This position is contingent on funding.

Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Contributes to goalsetting and strategic planning for the department as a member of the Food Services Leadership Team, and implements those plans and goals within their area of responsibility
  • Assists in the creation of and adherence to Food Services standards of excellent customer service, associated with improved convenience, choice, and quality.
  • Ensures effective communication of departmental direction and initiatives to direct reports by establishing transparency through shared Food Services goal setting while taking the initiative to make recommendations for process improvements and operational enhancements.
  • Oversee the daytoday performance and professional development of the finance administration and IT staff including assisting in setting professional goals that meet align with the departments strategic plan.
  • Promote and maintain positive working relationships with all University stakeholders, fostering collaboration and maintaining high staff morale throughout the team, within the working committees, and throughout the department.
Fiscal Management, Controls and Reporting

  • Provides leadership, coordination and management of sales reports, inventory reports, and internal financial statements, annual budgets, annual year end reports and financial position forecasts
  • Contributes to the development, improvement, and promotion of strong internal controls for financial processes and transactions to minimize risks
  • Conducts periodic audit and review of Food Services financial resources, policies, and procedures
  • Provides leadershipcoordination and management of revenue reports, expense/cost reports, and internal financial statements, annual budgets, annual year end reports and financial forecasts
  • Develops and delivers financial training materials as needed, documents financial processes within the department, and provides training, coaching and guidance to department staff to ensure compliance and clarity
  • Signing authority as assigned by the Director
  • Manages confidential files pertaining to budget and contracts
Financial Strategy and Long-Term Planning

  • Develop financial analysis in support current and longterm strategic initiatives, and provide valuable insight for longterm planning decisions, business development, capital projects and major expenditures (e.g. software implementation and integration, office and unit renovations, capital equipment analysis on depreciation)
  • Prepares multiyear budget projections for the department's financial position
  • Provides financial input, including financial documentation for the Director and the Leadership Team and UW campus partners to support informed decisionmaking
  • In conjunction with the management team, prepares and submits the annual Food Services budget to UW Finance
  • Performs ongoing monitoring of budgets and financial transactions during the fiscal year
  • Reviews the financial statements monthly and conducts meetings with the Director, Executive Chef and Operations
  • Managers to discuss any questions or concerns
  • Presents the department's financial analysis at the monthly Food Services management meeting or as required
  • Identifies and highlights existing risks or financial consequences of existing operational procedures or future planning proposals and offers solutions to mitigate negative outcomes
Business Management
