Operations Manager, Living Benefits


What is the opportunity?


As a Manager of Operations for the Individual Living Benefits team you will be accountable for overseeing and supporting the team in a high volume customer service environment.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who will help drive results to achieve high levels of client satisfaction that contribute positively to persistency and reputation in the insurance market place.


What will you do?

  • Responsible for managing and leading the operational servicing team ensuring quality processing and service level agreements are met and often exceeded for our clients.
  • Biweekly coaching, and helping staff develop strong talent and acquire new skillsets, building knowledge both in their role and in preparation for future career opportunities in line with our leadership model.
  • Provide focus and clarity in establishing team goals, driving performance management, supporting career development and rewarding strong performance.
  • Provide Management support for product questions, investigations, clarifications or processing outside of the normal requests.
  • Provide direction, guidance and decision making on day to day servicing environment and sensitive issues or escalations when they arise.
  • Ensure the creation and periodic review of any standard operating procedures (SOPs) or job aids as required.
  • Monitor results and reports to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal compliance requirements, audit and risk are met.
  • Accountable for recruitment activities and ensuring that staff are adequately equipped to perform required functions.
  • Development and maintenance of strong relationships with our internal partners, Field Sales Representatives, Brokers, Call center, Claims, Legal and clients.
  • Provides support and interacts with related areas when required, example product, underwriting, actuarial and client relations.
  • Knowledge of work functions within RBC Insurance and understands both the internal and external factors that impact each division.

What will you need to succeed?

Must haves:


  • College / University Graduate
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in insurance, leading and motivating others
  • Proven interpersonal communication and time management skills
  • Multitasked, creative, problem solver, demonstrates attention to detail and goal oriented team player
  • Experience in a high volume customer service environment
  • Strong analytical and problem resolutions skills
  • Strong people leadership skills
  • Expert understanding of complex Life & Health products, processes and systems
  • Strong knowledge of multiple RBCI and supplier systems supporting processes
  • Working knowledge of RBC compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Proven decision making, analytical and problem solving skills

Nice to Have

  • Customer Service or relative experience
  • Industry related designations/credentials (FLMI, ALHC, ACS, etc )
