Job Summary:
Resumes are being accepted for the position of


Hours of Work
40 hours per week.

Any eight (8) consecutive hours between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday and between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm on Fridays.

Shift work may be a requirement of this position during winter control. Stand by and on-call may be a requirement of this position.


Your Role

  • Perform duties in the development, maintenance and operation of the Operations Department related to concrete and boulevard activities and roads winter control.
  • Operate various types of equipment including but not limited to frontend loaders with or without loader plow attachment, dump trucks, large plate tampers and small equipment, including auxiliary attachments, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform various duties specific to boulevard maintenance activities including but not limited to concrete base preparation, forming, pouring and finishing. Additional duties include restoration/repair of disturbed boulevards using top soil, seed/sod.
  • Perform various duties relating to winter control of roadways including operating a combination tandem truck with plow and wing and other relevant machinery, manual snow and ice clearing and manual salting and sanding equipment.
  • Comply with all applicable regulations and requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Highway Traffic Act, all Federal, Provincial and City regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Remove obstacles hazardous to employees or the public or that interfere with the safe operation of vehicles or equipment.
  • Accurate and timely completion of daily activity time sheets including reporting of materials used and work completed, inspection and reporting forms.
  • Report on variances in daily work plans.
  • Immediately report vandalism, mechanical difficulties, damage and hazardous conditions.
  • Actively participate in a team environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education is required.
  • Experience related to the duties listed above with includes 5 months of Plow and Wing experience on a D-Z class vehicle would be an asset
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of tools, equipment and procedures relevant to concrete and boulevard maintenance activities.
  • Must be a reliable selfstarter, able to make decisions and function with minimum supervision.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Have the ability to deal with the public in a cordial manner and work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical activities including lifting, digging, shoveling, raking and climbing ladders and be able to actively participate in daily activities, working within live traffic conditions and adverse weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of and experience with computers.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

Rate
$27.33 per hour
