    As a Data Developer, your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and maintain the data infrastructure and systems that support GEM's data management and analytics initiatives. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the availability, scalability, and reliability of the data infrastructure, as well as optimizing its performance. This position requires strong technical expertise in data engineering, database management, and cloud technologies.

    What does your typical day look like?

  • Design, develop, and maintain GEM's data infrastructure, including data pipelines, data warehouses, and databases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and design appropriate data models, schemas, and architectures.
  • Implement and optimize ETL processes from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, Azure, and other technologies (including 'big data' technologies).
  • Collaborate with DevOps and IT teams to ensure data infrastructure aligns with the overall IT infrastructure strategy and standards.
  • Implement and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, data lineage, and metadata management processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define data standards, naming conventions, and data classification.
  • Establish and enforce data access controls, data security measures, and privacy protocols.
  • Monitor and audit data usage and access to ensure adherence to data governance guidelines.
  • Document technical specifications, processes, and guidelines related to data infrastructure.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in data engineering and recommend innovative solutions to improve data infrastructure and processes.
  • What skills and training do you need?

  • 4-6 years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in computer engineering, mathematics, data science, or related disciplines.
  • Experience using the following software/tools:
  • Relational SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MS SQL Server, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB).
  • Cloud platforms (e.g., Azure) and familiarity with cloud-based data services and storage technologies.
  • Data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Azkaban, Luigi, Azure Data Factory, Airflow, etc.
  • Leveraging REST APIs.
  • Data Warehousing Solutions (e.g., Snowflake) including data modeling, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Data modeling and transformation tools (e.g., DBT).
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team to tackle structured and unstructured data processing problems.
  • Relevant certifications in Azure Data Services or Snowflake are a plus.
