The Company Manager is an integral part of the Artistic and Production departments.

Supporting all departmental communication and logistics coordination, the Company Manager is a central point of contact and information source for all artistic and production functions; specifically, supporting the working and living experience of the Alberta Ballet company members including dancers, choreographers, designers, guests, and Artistic/Production staff for all events and performances.


Key Deliverables/Responsibilities:

Artistic/Production*
  • Coordinate all travel and accommodation logistics for the company, guest companies and contractors.
  • Support and welcome touring companies, including hospitality.
  • Provide onsite show service support on scheduled dates of productions in theatre.
  • Ensure the Company is compliant with the current Alberta Ballet Agreement (ABA) between the Alberta Ballet and the CAEA (Canadian Actors Equity Association).
  • Offer support for artistic and production in providing and distributing up to date information and all documentation regarding the travel and movement of the company.
  • Support the Company by ensuring all safety and communication needs are being met by taking part in various committees including the Joint Health and Safety Committee and participating in the Equity Communications Committee.
  • Curate and liaise with volunteers for physiotherapy treatments.
  • Create itineraries for incoming contractors and guests with Artistic and Production departments.
  • Implement COVID19 testing schedules and handle other health and safety practices.
  • Liaise with Marketing and Development teams for any additional events or items required of the Dancers.

Administrative & Budgeting*
  • Support the creation, management, and adherence to established budgets.
  • Support the artistic department with invoicing, per diem, and expense/visa claims for dancers and artistic team.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors including caterers, florists, local housing, and travel, etc.
  • Maintain a thorough listing of all vendor contact information, accounts and contracts and agreements for annual Seasonal operations.
  • Support onboarding of new Artistic or Production staff, with HR. Facilitate safety orientations with Artistic staff and Dancers for the company building.
  • Efficiently archive and create paperwork logistics and show related documents.

Studio Management*

  • Coordinate all repair and equipment needs in studio to ensure the safety and efficiency of the dancers and artistic staff.
  • Ensure completion of bimonthly safety inspection of Artistic workspaces and dancer lounges within the Company Building. Ensure filing of documentation within Safety SharePoint site and activate on identified maintenance or safety issues as required.
  • Assist in small maintenance/cleaning tasks.
  • Manage all studio bookings for external parties and the Alberta Ballet School.

Qualifications:


  • Excitement for Alberta Ballet's strategic objectives; specifically, a deep belief in the importance of ballet and the arts and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Postsecondary education in Arts Administration and/or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity and/or working knowledge of touring theatrical productions.
  • Large scale event management/planning.
  • Dance experience.
  • Knowledge of logístical planning and execution.
  • Sound team building skills, communication skills and a positive and open attitude towards feedback and growth.
  • Ability to lift/move weight up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to work in an oftenchallenging environment and demonstrate good judgement when issues are escalated.
  • Project management experience with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge and experience with Health and Safety initiatives and practices.
  • First Aid / CPR Certification
  • Police Background / Vulnerable Sector Check

Working Conditions / Requirements

  • This is a yearround, fulltime, permanent position requiring 40 hours per week, working primarily at our offices in Calgary, located on 18th Ave SW when the company is not in performance.
  • Evenings and weekends will be required during performance weeks for the Company,guest companies, and dancer chaperoned events.
  • Must be able to travel with the company primarily between September and May (including December).
  • Applicable safety training will be required and provided.
