Summary
This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the Technicians.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • S et up and operation of t riage and the q uality c ontrol system.
  • Provide s technical advice to service customers and technicians.
  • Review s a pprentices ' skills and abilities and recommends additional and ongoing training accordingly.
  • Diagnoses and performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership, factory and warranty policies and procedures.
  • Discusses any problems related to the repair with service management.
  • Communicates with Parts Department to obtain parts required.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Informs the Service Manager of any additional repairs needed or advised.
  • Communicates with Service Advisor if additional work is needed, if the work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the p roposed time.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Completes r oad tests on vehicles after repairs are completed, to ensure that the repairs have been properly done, and that the repair answers the concerns as stated on the work order.
  • Greets customers when in the service bay, ensuring optimum customer service and explaining the "Why's?" and "How's?" of the problem.
  • Understands and keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins and vehicle regulations.
  • Ensures that customer cars are kept clean.
  • Notifies Service Advisor s immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of vehicle s.
  • Handles customer complaints immediately and according to dealership policy.
  • Attends all training courses as requested by service management.
  • Assists in the training and supervis ion of A pprentice Technicians.
  • Shuttles vehicles in and out of the service area.
  • Performs hoist and machinery maintenance as needed.
  • Maintains equipment maintenance records.
  • Maintains complete knowledge of and complies with company and departmental policies, procedures and standards.
  • Maintains customer and company confidence by keeping information confidential and secure.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with team members and management in a team environment. Sets up and organizes individual work area with designated supplies, forms and resource materials while maintaining cleanliness at all times.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in the service department.
  • Completion of high school diploma or vocational equivalent.
  • Automotive service technician trade certification.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and clean driver's abstract.
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission is required for this role.
  • Proficient with the following computer environments: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook.
  • Advanced knowledge of technical repairs and procedures and manufacturer warranty policies.
  • Knowledge of Provincial Safety Standards concerning the performance and area of position responsibility.
  • Ability to work cohesively with employees and managers as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to communicate (verbal and written) in English fluently.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of technical repairs and procedures.
  • Mechanical aptitude and quality orientated.
  • Detailoriented and excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
