ABOUT THE ROLE:


As Assistant Manager, you will divide your time between working on the sales floor and providing exceptional customer service to our customers, while also assisting the Store Manager in coaching and guiding the staff, and ensuring day-to-day general operations in the store are as smooth as possible.


You will excel in this role if you are able to strike a balance between deferring to the Manager's leadership and vision for the store, while also conveying a sense of authority to the staff.

You will excel at modeling excellent customer service to your team, while simultaneously providing consistent, quality work on all detail-oriented duties.


You will bring to your position a diverse set of skills and experience in Retail, Employee Relations & Management, and art materials & media.

Your experiences and willingness to lead by example will help you in your goal of building the Curry's brand, cultivating a dedicated sales force, and maintaining a store with a strong presence in your local arts community.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Supervise, motivate, & coach your team of diverse Sales Associates to provide optimal customer service to your clientele
  • Assist in scheduling staff shifts while maintaining overall hours that align with company guidelines
  • Successfully delegate duties
  • Assist the Store Manager in interviewing, hiring, employee relations, staff training, disciplining, and dismissals
  • Liaise with Head Office personnel as required
  • Provide consistent and constructive feedback to your team in order to build a dedicated sales force and foster their professional growth
  • Monitor sales targets with the direction of the Store Manager, and motivate staff to reach them
  • Maintain a balanced cash system, and perform banking/deposit duties
  • Assist with Oversee product ordering, inventory counts, and maintaining optimal stock levels
  • Respect and reinforce LP and Health & Safety policies and procedures in the store
  • Maintain and build the Curry's brand by understanding company values and portraying them to customers & modeling them to your team
  • Quickly adapt to changes to internal policies & procedures, or within the Art Materials industry
  • Filing reports
  • Demonstrate consistency and punctuality to your team
  • Communicate effectively with the Store Manager, and work with their direction
  • Other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Postsecondary College or University diploma/degree or equivalent experience highly preferred (i.e. in a related field)
  • Mandatory: at least two years' experience in retail management
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with a wide variety of art materials and media
  • A level of comfort with focusing on sales targets
  • Proficiency in math
  • Excellent English written & verbal communication skills
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and TECSYS PointForce/PFE
  • Extensive experience with cash handling and point of sales transactions, including Chase debit/credit terminals
  • Experience with balancing cash and banking
  • Flexible schedule, with mandatory availability during our busiest times of year (Back to School and Holidays)
  • Understanding of the current Canadian retail climate
  • Dedication to maintaining and building the Curry's brand

Salary:
$18.00-$21.00 per hour
