Job Profile

Under the leadership and direction of the Chief Estimator, the Estimator works to analyze construction documents, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare timely and accurate full-cost estimates for projects, including materials, equipment and labour.

Duties and Responsibilities

Tenders

Support on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders
Prepare and coordinate all submissions documents such as execution plans, schedules, qualifications, charge out rates, etc. and ensure proper and timely submission of tenders
Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour, based on tender drawings, specifications of the projects
Interpret drawings and specifications to understand the contract documents for each tender
Prepare schedules of the project as required using MS Project
Prepare cost schedule as required

Scope of work/Change Orders

Review IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings against IFT (Issued for Tender) bid documents and prepare estimates for changes
Track Request for Information (RFI), Contemplated Change Order (CCN), Site Instructions (SI), Structural Site Instructions (SSI), Architectural Site Instructions (ASI), etc. and prepare submittal of change order
Monitor all submitted change orders and determine if it has been approved or not.
Collaborate with the site coordinator of any possible Extra Work Order (EWO) and prepare for submission
Review the scope of work in the tender stage, contract stage and construction stage

Project Management

Work with the project management team throughout the preconstruction process in reviewing plans and specifications for construction issues and determining general requirements on the project
Assist the project management team in planning procedures for construction on the basis of start and completion times and staffing requirements
Attend site visits or preconstruction meetings to gather information and specifics and to evaluate and understand work scope in preparation to bid
Prepare and maintain a list/directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractor contacts, proposals and pricing
Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current information on prices from suppliers

Education, Experience and Skills

Education

Diploma in construction estimating or construction engineering technology
Graduate in Engineering School or Technical school (optional)

Experience

Minimum of 35 years of experience in an estimating role within construction industry (industrial, institutional and/or commercial projects)
Should have at least 2+ years of field experience. (Concrete Forming preferred)

Skills and requirements

Knowledge of concrete forming or construction industry preferred
Extensive understanding of construction methods and materials in the industry
Mathematical and analytical skills to do material and labour estimates
Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS Project, estimating software such as Planswift, On screen take off, and other estimating software, AutoCAD, Bluebeam use an asset.
Proficient in the preparation of firm tenders/design build projects
Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings is preferred
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work well under pressure and meet critical deadlines
Excellent communication skills and fully fluent in English with the ability to effectively convey ideas both orally and written along with effective presentation skills
