The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is a community-based natural resource management agency that works to protect, enhance, and sustain healthy watersheds.

With 60 years of experience, the NPCA offers watershed programs and services that focus on flood and hazard management, source water protection, species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, and land management.

The NPCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario.

With 41 Conservation Areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed, the NPCA manages lands that are held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education.

These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.


Summary of Duties

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivering environmental outreach and engagement activities with the community including native tree/wildflower planting events, invasive species removal, pollinator garden maintenance, presentation, and guided walks/hikes within the watershed jurisdiction;
  • Support the delivery of communitybased educational programming for youth such as Yellow Fish Road, Envirothon, Niagara Children's Water Festival;
  • Attend community outreach events to promote NPCA programs and services;
  • Support the coordination of outreach and engagement activities related to the Niagara River Remedial Action Plan program;
  • Assist with volunteer coordination by reviewing submissions, responding to inquiries, collecting/maintaining uptodate volunteer data (e.g., volunteer hours and contact information)
  • Support the coordination of the annual Conservation Awards to recognize NPCA volunteers;
  • Support daytoday administrative tasks such as ordering tree and plant materials, submitting invoices for approval, data entry & tracking, and basic recordkeeping;

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and interest in environmental science, biology, geography or a related discipline
  • Experience with environmental education, outreach, and/or engagement activities
  • Knowledge of the native trees and plants in the NPCA watershed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and computer use
  • Willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work some irregular hours and weekends
  • Valid G driver's licence & criminal record check

Salary:
$ $18.00 per hour; up to 35 hrs per week


Location:
NPCA Main Office-250 Thorold Rd W, Welland; with travel within the watershed and opportunity for hybrid work.
